Left-field pop rhythms

Monday 16th March 2015

Sivu’s fortunes began to change almost a year ago, when working in a call centre: debut track (the MRI-machine video for ‘Better Man Than He’) went viral, showing the world precisely what goes on inside a musician’s head. He has since signed with Atlantic Records, toured with the likes of London Grammar, and picked up support across Radio 1, 6Music and XFM. Having finished runner-up to Banks in the Blog Sound of 2014 poll, Sivu is presently finishing up his debut album with Charlie Andrew (Alt J).

Sivu has premiered new single ‘Can’t Stop Now’, which will be released on March 24 (Atlantic Records), 2014. The heady video for ‘Can’t Stop Now’ was filmed in Los Angeles with Sivu’s ex-flat-mate and long-term collaborator Adam Powell. Experimenting with the idea of a green-screen suit, the clip captures the “chaos and confusion” of a time when James moved to London from Cambridge, attempting to break into music.  It’s an urgent appeal to follow your gut against the ticking clock, seemingly as inspired by the rhythmic drive of Bombay Bicycle Club as the left-field pop of Sivu’s hero, Beck - another solo artist with ambitions beyond the solitary ‘singer-songwriter’ tag.

Sivu will be performing at Dot to Dot Festival 2014
