The Urban Cup
The Fred Perry Urban Cup is a unique nationwide youth Table Tennis tournament aimed at a grassroots level of participation within inner city areas.
The Urban Cup aims to provide competition in these areas and perhaps even unearth a future Table Tennis champion.
The tournament is a team based event.
The Heats
In 2007 eight cities, four from the north of England and four from the south will each elect a team of participants to represent their city at the Fred Perry Urban Cup. Each participant will be discovered within the youth club sector.
The first round of the tournament will be the Regional Heats: all four northern cities will compete against one another to decide upon a northern finalist, all four southern cities will compete against one another to decide upon a southern finalist.
Each team is made up of six players: three boys and three girls, one of each from the following age categories: Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16.
The Finals
The tournament activity will take place during the course of one day - 8th September 2007, at London's Old Truman Brewery.
The event will see all 48 participants descend from all parts of the country to compete with bat and ball, for the chance to claim the title of 2007 Fred Perry Urban Cup winner for their city.
Each team member will compete against his/ her corresponding age and gender opponent from the other team; match results will be based on overall team performance. The two finalists will then go head to head to bring home the Fred Perry Urban Cup for their city.
