Name?
The Chessmen - Luke, Ryan, Scott.

Where are you from?
Luke and Scott are from Leeds, Ryan is originally from Bolton but currently lives in Leeds, 'cause Leeds is better!

What do you do?
Luke - Singer/guitar
Ryan - Bass
Scott - Drums

Describe your style in three words?
ROLICKING ROCK N ROLL!

How should your music be listened to?
Our music should be listened to at full blast and full speed. Music that speaks to the mind is all very well, but for us, its music that speaks to the muscle that matters. This is visceral music that speaks to the most primal sections of the crotch, it’s not a lecture on how to live your life.

What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
(Ryan) From a personal perspective, I miss absolutely nothing about home when I’m on tour. How can one possibly miss damp walls, a dank basement and a sink that continues to drip like it actually wants to torture you through the day and night. Hotel beds are fantastic, even when you share them with Scott and he snores like he’s trying to prove a point at how loud his nostrils are.

What British music icons inspire your sound today?
(Luke) 13th Floor Elevators, The Kinks, The Who (early stuff), The Beatles, The La's, The Coral, The Knickerbockers, Oasis, The Sonics...

04Playlist Notes

What was the first song you played on repeat?
(Luke) 'Tattva' by Kula Shaker
(Ryan) 'Barbarism Begins At Home' by The Smiths
(Scott) 'Riverboat song' by Ocean Colour Scene

A song from your favourite album?
We're all indecisive b**tards and can't decide on one specific album the we each love so here's one from each of us -
(Luke) 'Levitation' by 13th Floor Elevators
(Ryan) 'Feelin'' by The La's
(Scott) 'Hello' by Oasis

Song you wish you had written / Music icon that has inspired you?
'That's Entertainment' by The Jam or 'My Generation' by The Who. Both The Jam/Paul Weller and The Who are massive music icons to us and inspire us massively.

'That's Entertainment' and 'My Generation' are both timeless, amazing songs, 'My Generation' will never stop being relatable to young people just getting into their music, It’s the most surreal feeling going for a walk at 9.30am and living out every lyric in 'That’s Entertainment'. You should try it and listen to it at the same time.

4 new bands you can’t stop listening to right now?

Paves

The Strawberries

Cupids

The Coral
(not a new band we know but their new stuff is ace!)
