One of the stand out performances of Dot to Dot 2015. Up and coming London songstress Laurel was first noticed when her demos surfaced online a year ago, and since then the 21 year old singer-producer has been sonically building with a great response, garnering comparisons to those in the current 'dark pop' genre such as Lana Del Rey, Lorde and Banks, whilst she draws vocal similarities to the likes of MS MR’s Lizzy Plapinger, Låpsley, Indiana and Zola Jesus.
The track 'Memorials' is a stark, haunting piece, building strong emotions against harmonious vocals, sophisticated synth riffs and subtle trip-hop inspired beats. Third track ‘Come Together’ is a moody noir-pop ballad, featuring Sivu accompanying Laurel's soaring vocals atop minimalist beats, and complex, layered melodies.
She has also recently unveiled the five-track Allelopathy; an atmospheric, alluring concept set which delivers Laurel's warm pop tones over tracks from FKA twigs, Yung Gud and Andru. This experimental mixtape serves as an extension to Laurel's Holy Water EP, which was released at the end of last year on Next Time Records.
