Introduce yourself
We are 87dance based in Seoul. Betheblue, singer and producer; Park Sungho, guitarist and Lee Jungyeol, drummer.
Describe your style in three words?
Understanding. Love. Creation.
What inspires your work?
Stress. Whenever we struggle making music, it is hard to deal with the stress. Stress is always around us like our friends. We hate it but also sometimes love it. It feels amazing when we get over this stress. We’re always excited to play these songs that come out of this stress and if people don’t like it, we’re disappointed but also motivated.
Where is your favourite Independent venue in Seoul?
Idaho in Mangwon, Seoul. When we went there for the first time, we immediately felt at home. It’s a simple and beautiful space. We wanted this place to be our hideout. Luckily, we had a chance to play our first gig in Idaho and it was an unforgettable moment.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Not sure if it is a subculture but we really love football. We like playing football, watching football. We always talk about football. It’s a big part of our life.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Anderson .Paak’s live performance in Korea. It was 4 years ago and I still remember all of us singing and dancing together. It was overwhelming.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Yoo Jaeha. All his albums are magical. We’re influenced by the lyrics of his songs. The lyrics of a song called 'Gloomy Letter' are especially incredible.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
B: Probably no one knows this artist called Goodoja. He’s a rapper and a friend of mine from my hometown. I think he was one of the best freestyle rappers. He used to do freestlye battles on the street and showed the hip-hop culture to people in our hometown. He doesn’t do music anymore sadly.
The first track you played on repeat?
B: 'Now' by Fin.K.L. This was the first tape I ever got from my mom and I became a big fan of them.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Road' by God. We used to sing this song a lot in Karaoke.
One record you would keep forever?
'OK Computer' by Radiohead. You can’t get bored of this record. We recommend 'Lucky' and 'No Surprises'.
A song you wished you had written?
'Love' by John Lennon. It’s a warm and nostalgic song. Love is free, free is love.
Best song to turn up loud?
'September' by Earth, Wind & Fire.
A song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Come Back Home' by Seo Taiji and Boys.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'B Minor Waltz' by Bill Evans Trio. This song is like a hot coffee in the cold night.
Any new bands you’re into at the moment?
'What's New With You' by Kassa Overall. It’s Jazz music with Boom bap style rap. One of the best songs we’ve been listening to lately.
Best song to bring people together?
'All The Lonely People (Piano Ver.)' by e_so. This song’s lyrics will make everyone feel together.
The greatest love song of all time?
'Proposal' by Lee So Ra. It is a happy song. A song I want to sing for someone or would want someone to sing for me.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Sponge Bob Square Pants’s Theme song. The best song to cheer myself up.
