A Blu DeTiger Photo
Name, where are you from?
Blu DeTiger, New York City.
Describe your style in three words?
Rock and roll glitter chic.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I saw Nile Rogers and Chic at this outdoor festival in Ibiza when I was around 12 years old. This is when I first started to learn slap bass and I was so obsessed with Chic songs and the basslines in them (still am). It was one of the first times I witnessed such amazing musicians play in person.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
David Bowie and Prince because they’re two of the best performers of our time.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Funk, Disco, NYC club culture, House and Techno, Dub, New Wave, CBGB bands, Rock and Roll, early 2000s.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Prince—for obvious reasons. Also, if we ended up jamming during that time my life would be made.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Meow Wolf in Santa Fe. It’s an art museum with so many nooks and crannies to discover. When I played there the museum was closed to the public during the day so we had the whole place to ourselves to explore before the show.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Tom Moulton.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Ain’t No Sunshine' by Bill Withers.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Let’s Dance' by David Bowie.
One record you would keep forever?
'Forget Me Nots' by Patrice Rushen.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“'Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin' cars and eatin' bars
And now he only eats guitars, get up!”
From 'Rapture' by Blondie.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Bad Girls' by Donna Summer.
A song you wished you had written?
'Dancing On My Own' by Robyn.
Best song to turn up loud?
Honestly, every song haha. Here are a few I’ve been turning up loud recently.
'The Difference' by Flume, Toro Y Moi.
'Age Of Consent' by New Order.
'Once In A Lifetime' by Talking Heads.
Best song to bring people together?
'Crazy in Love' by Beyonce.
'Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)' by Stevie Wonder.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
I like such a range of music so this question is almost impossible!
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'All My Friends' by LCD Soundsystem.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Connaissais de Face' by Khruangbin.
'WIYULD' by Evann McIntosh.
'Crushcrushcrush' by Coco & Clair Clair.
