Name, where are you from?
Denise Sherwood, North London.
Describe your style in three words?
Mature, emotional, gentle.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Sade! She was even better live than I had imagined and the vibe was incredible. I came away feeling high for days.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Portishead and Bjork because they have been so inspiring and have such powerful energy and original sound. I'm such a massive fan it would blow my mind.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Trip-hop and dub because it's moody and meditative and gentle but digs deep.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Nina Simone. I'd like to experience the full power of her presence
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
Camden Palace (which is now Koko) because it's where I first raved and I had amazing experiences exploring the space.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
LSK, because he is such an incredible songwriter but hasn't had the recognition I believe he deserves.
The first track you played on repeat?
'John Doe' by Shaggy.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Valley of the Shadows' by Origin Unknown.
One record you would keep forever?
'Wandering Star' by Portishead.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return"
From 'Nature Boy' by Nat King Cole.
A song you wished you had written?
'Woodstock' by Joni Mitchell.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Lean On Me' by Bill Withers.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'I'm with You' by Avril Lavigne.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Work It' by Missy Elliot. (Although any Missy Elliot tune would do!)
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Sincere' by MJ Cole.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
CHAI (a Japanese punk band).
