03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Oliver Southgate, I'm from Enfield/Teignmouth but live in Bristol now.

Describe your style in three words?
Practical, 70's, Solid.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
One of the best shows I've seen was Charles Bradley at Colston Hall in Bristol a few years ago. He had about 5 outfit changes.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Us, The Doors & The Stooges. Shamanic and unpredictable.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Californian and New York punk scenes because there was a no shit attitude and I've always loved the sixties counterculture of London, like The Kinks' village green vibe.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Damon Albarn, because his work ethic and output are perfect. He inspires me every day.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Kentish Town Forum was mega, it didn't hit me until we walked out on stage how emotional it would make me. I moved from London when I was a kid but it always feels like home, so it felt important to play such a big show in London with our boys, IDLES.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Jeff Tweedy, I just love him and his music and his sense of humour a lot, and think most people who should know him, haven't heard of him, or Wilco.
