Stylist/DJ — Berlin
A Olive Duran Photo
Name, where are you from?
Olive, I'm half German, half Kenyan, born and raised in Washington DC and I'm now living in Berlin.
What do you do?
I'm a stylist and amateur DJ.
Describe your style in three words?
Authentic, easy and eclectic.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Each and every one of the four times I've seen FKA Twigs live was breathtaking.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Black Lips and Outkast.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I'd say it's a fair mix between Future Hood, Skating, Underground and Rave. That covers everything for me when it comes to my background, my nightlife, my music and my everyday surroundings.
The first track you played on repeat?
'No One's Gonna Love You' by The S.O.S Band.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Take Me Away' by Fefe Dobson.
One record you would keep forever?
'Devotion' by Tirzah or 'Aquemini' by OutKast.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"B*tch, real Gs move in silence like lasagna."
From '6 Foot 7 Foot' by Lil Wayne. Not sure if that inspired me but it's a genius line.
A song you wished you had written?
'Hope' by Blood Orange.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'L'Esperanza' by Sven Väth.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
It's a toss-up between 'My Boo' by Ghost Town DJs and 'Mr. Vain' by Culture Beat.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Can't Stop Raving' by Dune if I don't want the party to stop or 'Only You' by Yazoo if I do.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Charm Mone!
