Name, where are you from?
My name's Teks Sinatra and I’m from Croydon, South London but I was born in Uganda.

Describe your style in three words?
That’s hard lol. If I’m 1000% complete honest, I don’t know if I’ve got a style. I just write what’s on my mind

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Biggest gig I’ve ever been to as an artist would probably be supporting my brother Hardy on his tours. Seeing how many people knew my songs word for word was crazy.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
If I could be on stage with two bands, it’ll probably be Destiny’s Child whilst they’re singing 'Cater 2 U' because that’s what I feel like I deserve in life. The second band would probably be Busted, they were a childhood favourite - lol.

Which Subcultures have influenced you?
R&B, hip hop, rap, grime have been my biggest influences. I’d say R&B above everything as it’s made me focus on making music for the ages rather than for the moment. You can hear it with all the R&B samples I use in my songs. A timeless genre.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
That’s a hard question. Naturally, I’d want to pick a musical icon but for knowledge sake, I think I’d pick a historical figure like Martin Luther King or Malcolm X because I loved his intellect. Just to show them the progress/lack of progress we’ve made. See if it’s more or less than the expected.

Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
The O2 is crazy. You don’t really realise how small of a person you are until you’re in a capacity that you can really visually take in and you see just how many human beings exist lol. Makes you kind of grateful for life. You could’ve been anyone, but you’re you.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
That’s hard. This isn’t the greatest but one of my personal unsung hero’s is a grime artist called Griminal. Him and Chip were the first to draw me into grime. Wish music could’ve gone different for him because he did inspire a whole young generation. I also don’t think people like Krept, Konan, Yungen, Cash and Sneakbo get the honours that they deserve. Growing up, those were the reasons I wanted to rap. Me and the mandem revised the freestyles more than any school book I’ve ever been given lol.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'The Way You Make Me Feel' by Michael Jackson. I was pretty young but it’s most likely a Michael Jackson song. I remember I got an MJ cd for my birthday and I carried a radio everywhere I could just to play it on repeat. He was the reason I fell in love with music.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'You Must Love Me' by Jay Z. I know a lotta people think they were crazy in their teenage years but I really mean it lol. I look back now and I don’t know how I did half the things I did lol I was reckless.

One record you would keep forever?
'My Love Is Your Love' by Whitney Houston. Certain songs just make you feel like things are gonna be okay lol.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Keep grindin' boy, your life can change in one year,
And even when it's dark out, the sun is shining somewhere.”

From 'Premeditated Murder' by J. Cole.

A song you wished you had written?
'Did You See' by J Hus. I think it’s so hard to get a song with that much replay value. Years later and it still feels the same listening to it.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Swing It' by Kwengface. Right now I’m listening.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Human' by Jon Bellion. I remember the mandem were clowning me when they heard me listening to it in my headphones. I put it on the aux and they haven’t stopped listening to him since lol. That was four years ago.

The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Dior' by Pop Smoke. RIP to a premature legend.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Drunk' by Ed Sheeran.

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
None off the top of my head if I’m honest lol. Not currently. Old school bands though? Westlife!
