A Mealtime Photo
Name, where are you from?
Sam from Mealtime, Manchester.
Describe your style in three words?
Colourful, playful, sexy.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
We all watched Hot Chip when we were at last years Bluedot festival. They were INCREDIBLE and even being on the same line-up as an act like that who inspired us so much felt like an honour.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Talking Heads - Always dancing on the fine line between making absolutely fantastic pop songs whilst remaining esoteric, interesting and challenging. The choreography, songs, performance - everything about 'Stop Making Sense' makes it the perfect concert film.
MGMT - Always pushing themselves with each record, making brave artistic choices, again, striking an incredible balance between fantastic songwriting, humour and weirdness. We'd play for free just for the chance to see them play 'Little Dark Age' live.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
The beauty of the internet is we're the first generation exposed to absolutely EVERYTHING.
Whether it's UK Garage, '80s New Romantic power ballads or futuristic Cyber-Punk Aesthetics from our favourite Anime films, we've access to every flavour imaginable and that's beautiful.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Dave Benson Philips. We've wanted to recreate 'Get Your Own Back' for a music video for a while now - Dave, if you're reading this, let's get together.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Hebden Bridge Trades Club. The place just feels special. They've hosted all-time greats and they still give new music a vital space to be heard and enjoyed in the perfect environment. If you've not been, visit it as soon as humanly possible.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Our driver James Kidd. A stoic, resilient figure that will stop at nothing to get us to the gig on time. A man of many talents, he also creates and sells his own amazing sounding guitar pedals for Fuzz Beard Industries (check them out).
Mealtime recently released their new track 'Rain Like This', listen to it below. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for more information.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Signed, Sealed, Delivered' by Stevie Wonder.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Icky Thump' by The White Stripes.
One record you would keep forever?
'Pet Sounds' by The Beach Boys.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"I put my thang down, flip it and reverse it,
Ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gnaht ym tup I"
From 'Work It' by Missy Elliot.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Liverpool Street In The Rain' by Mall Grab.
A song you wished you had written?
'Odessa' by Caribou.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Ain't It Funny' by Danny Brown.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Lay All Your Love On Me' by ABBA.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'How Deep Is Your Love' by Bee Gees.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Comme des Garçons (Like The Boys)' by Rina Sawayama.
'A.A.A.A.' by Working Men's Club.
'Blue Verb' by Vegyn.
