Name, where are you from?
Paige, from the deep South East (London/Kent).
Describe your style in three words?
Hard-wearing androgyny.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
MGMT at the Albert Hall with my girlfriend, she had a special code which meant we were about 10 meters from the front. I was so obsessed with them at school I played percussive guitar arrangements of their songs, it was a dark time.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Björk and Jimi Hendrix. I’ve been a massive Björk fan ever since I found 'Debut' in my parents' CD collection. Any fellow Mama B fans will know how difficult she is to catch live so this would be a surefire way to witness her set. I feel Jimi and Björk would get on, maybe they’d jam at the end? He’s even harder to see live than Björk!
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
I’m more into individuals than subcultures, but I’m very inspired by artists with DIY attitudes, taking advantage of modern gear and self-producing without big teams. I love the way Tune-Yards use loads of tech really creatively and sound massive with a nontraditional setup.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
David Lynch because The Log Lady from ‘Twin Peaks’ is my Spirit Animal.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
I like YES in Manchester because the sound is always great. Also, I like riding in the equipment lift when we play in the basement.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Esperanza Spalding, she is the patron saint of vocal jazz and must not be overlooked.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Bad' by Michael Jackson, I was 7 and had a DVD of his music videos. His music was my first religion.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Paranoid Android' by Radiohead and 'Bullet In The Head' by Rage Against the Machine. Evidently I was riddled with angst!
One record you would keep forever?
'Song of Solomon' by Kate Bush although ideally, I’d like to keep her whole discography. She was my second religion and I think she’s omniscient.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Loving you is complicated"
From 'u' by Kendrick Lamar.
A song you wished you had written?
'I Wanna Be Your Lover' by Prince because it's one of the best pop songs ever. I could’ve answered every question here with a Prince song to be honest because I’m so in love with Prince.
Best song to turn up loud?
'HARD' by SOPHIE. I think she’s AI.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'She Wolf' by Shakira, hoping to cover this soon.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Dance or Die (feat. Saul Williams)' by Janelle Monae. I dance to this in the shower a lot.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Zion Wolf Theme' by Jai Paul or 'Avril 14th' by Aphex Twin.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
I love the lyrics in Quiet House’s 'The Gallery'. Childcare (although they’re not that new) who I saw in a medieval tower/prison in Canterbury. Their guitarist is really creative and I love 'Big Man'. Porij are a bunch of lads I’ve been following for a while! I love their back catalogue but their latest track '150' is very vibey. Also, VELVET SHAKES, Sylvette and Another Sky are sick.
