03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Monochrome plus colour.

The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?

Bryan Ferry - Let's Stick Together

I had the 7” when I was six.

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

Visage - Anvil Night Club School

This album meant a lot to me in my teenage years. It’s a dark electronic pop masterpiece, with a couple of silly songs thrown in.

A song from your most memorable gig?

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Bellbottoms

The greatest live set I’ve ever experienced was The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at a Melbourne Big Day Out in the mid 90s. The intensity level was condensed into a festival set. My jaw dropped and I was completely blown away.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Blur - Girls and Boys - 2012 Remaster

This always had punters dancing during my UK indie sets in the 2000s.

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Róisín Murphy - Let Me Know

Not a new song but a recently discovered song.

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

Prince - 1999

From the opening burst it’s just so funky and fresh.

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

New Order - Blue Monday - 2011 Total Version

I just remember being blown away when this came out and it still blows me away now.

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

Run–D.M.C. - Peter Piper

It’s my all-time favourite track, the funkiest thing I’ve ever heard.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

The Style Council - Shout To The Top

When I was DJing, this song was impossible to follow. It’s the perfect pop song.
