03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Old-school, up-to-date anyway.

The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?

Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen

First single I bought when I discovered punk rock. I read about the Sex Pistols as "most hated band in the world" in a magazine. So I got curious and wanted to find out what punk was all about.

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

The Jam - Going Underground

My favourite song of all time. Was not on the Setting Sons album but was released as a single shortly after. Can't describe my feelings when I heard this song the first time, but it was a corker. I couldn't get enough.

A song from your most memorable gig?

Grade 2 - Dover Street

This gig was November 2019 at Don't Panic in Essen. I hadn't attended any concert for a longer time and this was the first in 2019. I discovered them one or two years ago and went to see them now. Brilliant show. They performed a cover version of In the City from The Jam.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Madness - Swan Lake

There is a live video where Chas Smash and another guy are dancing and head banging which is very funny. Always makes me wanna dance, too.

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Dirt Box Disco - My Life Is Shit

Not that new but I discovered that band some time ago. Video is also quite funny.

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

Cockney Rejects - Bad Man

Earphones on and here we go. One of my favourites since 40 years. I love the snotty voice of Stinky Turner that has gone lost now sadly.

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

The Members - The Sound Of The Suburbs

One of my favourite songs in the early 80's. I sang the chorus together with my best mate thousands of times. It is still the ringtone of my mobile phone.

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

Big Country - In A Big Country

After Punk had gone down the drain a little bit in 1982 a new orientation was necessary. So I discovered Big Country out of the Ashes of The Skids. The guitars sounded like bagpipes. I listened to this song again and again.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

The Specials - A Message to You Rudy

Slow SKA dance track to calm down. And brilliant, too.
