03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Eclectic new community.

The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?

Florence + The Machine - Kiss With A Fist

I must have been 12 when this song came out, obsessed with Green Day. I think I'd snuck into a classroom at lunch and a few of us were listening to it on one of the school computers and then I went home and just had it on all evening.

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

Spector - Bad Boyfriend

Moth Boys was so special to me because it felt like they had grown and changed as I had, it was a transitional period of my life. Bad Boyfriend is a song that always leads me to introspection, I was just out of a breakup and it just hit right.

A song from your most memorable gig?

Galaxians - Subway Dancers

The first gig I sold out. It was a fundraiser at the Brudenell for Leeds charity called MAP (Music & Arts Production) who help kids at risk of exclusion from mainstream education to get creative diplomas. We had Cosmic Slop on after and there was a stage invasion. It was wild.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Schacke - Kisloty People

The soaring vocal, the heavy techno beat and that wave of synth that washes over you 2 minutes in. It's the perfect silly techno track. I was sat in a friends flat at like 11pm when first I heard this and Schacke was in town that night so we just got up and went dancing.

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Lady - Tender Hearted Woman

Just amazing psych-rock coming out of Leeds. Lady are a project that have been hinting at loads for the last 12 months and this is just evidence of how worthwhile the wait was.

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

La Femme - Tatiana

The moment this song is on I'm up for anything. Dancing round the room trying to bring any one with me along for the ride.

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

Frightened Rabbit - Swim Until You Can't See Land

I was not the most outgoing teenager. I liked and knew about all this music but didn't really know anyone else who did. I was intimiated by the cool kids at school and I felt too awkward to go to gigs in London and Frightened Rabbit really helped fill that gap.

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

Joshua Zero - Barbed Wire Eyelashes

I'll be surprised if you've heard this song and I know anthems are meant to be well known but those strings are so beautiful. This song gives me the same light feeling in my chest you get when you're watching your favourite band headline a festival. So, it's my anthem. Why not.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

KOKOROKO - Abusey Junction

There's two ways to end a night - with a bang or calmly. This is a 7am sun-rise in the park with tinnies. Lay-back, let the sound wash over you.
