03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Micah, The Secret Beach.

Describe your style in three words?
Good Will Hunting.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Taj Mahal's show where he did the Hawaiian style music (because my dad wanted to see him but was on a top-secret trip to Russia, so I took it in double the amount for him).

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Probably Townes Van Zandt for the hangs and Elliott Smith for the talk about how recording to tape is better. That would be a dangerous combo so watch out.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Probably what was going on with those mid-1600’s Icelandic spirit-folk. Very interesting style and methods of connection.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Mantler.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
I once played a show in a fly-in community called Old Crow in Yukon Territory. It was January and relatively close to the arctic circle, and the person hosting wasn't from there and offered us cold leftover spaghetti for dinner. The show was a bit odd but the location was cool and the few people who showed up were really nice.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
The Famous Sandhogs? I don’t know. Mollie Thompson.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Surfing With The Alien' by Joe Satriani.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Wasn't Born to Follow' by The Byrds.

One record you would keep forever?
The custom album Shotgun Jimmie made for Landon.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"If you wanna get the rabbit out the L.O.G,
you gotta make commotion like a D.O.G (like a D.O.G.)"

From 'Waymore's Blues' by Waylon Jennings.

A song you wished you had written?
Almost all of my songs.

Best song to turn up loud?
One that has not been mastered.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
The Sheryl Crow parts in 'Picture' by Kid Rock. She's simply amazing. But KR is a bit rough, hey? So people would be right in not expecting that I would like it because I don't really, but they would also be wrong in expecting that I do like it because I love it. On an ultra-macro scale, this is the type of thing that makes sense of a lot of things that don't otherwise make sense out of things that don't otherwise make sense of things that don't otherwise make sense of things.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Technically speaking 'Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down' by Kris Kristofferson is the best song for that.

Any new music you are listening to right now?
The Waverley Pickers.
The Famous Sandhogs.
