A Muncie Girls Photo
What is your name? Where are you from?
Lande Hekt and I’m from Exeter in Devon.
What do you do?
I play in Muncie Girls and I work at Exeter Cavern, my local venue.
Describe your style in three words?
Confused Patti Smith.
How should your music be listened to?
Either live, at a really small club, or maybe in a van if you’re driving with your mates somewhere. Any music is likable in that scenario.
What do you miss about home when you’re on tour?
The Cavern. It’s been my home for years now and even spending hours in other venues everyday, I miss sitting at the end of the bar talking endlessly with the best people.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
It’s probably not obvious when listening to us, but I’d say The Clash, The Slits, The Raincoats, Huggy Bear, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers and Crass.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
Rancid - 'Time Bomb'
The catchiest song in the world.
A song from your favourite album?
Sleater-Kinney - 'Modern Girl'
Also my favourite song.
Song you wish you had written?
Patti Smith - 'Because The Night'
I think Bruce Springsteen wrote that song. Makes sense.
A lyric that has inspired you?
“Poor fucking worker, poor little serf,
Working like a mule for half of what he's worth.”
From Crass’ 'Systematic Death'
(but actually I really like the Jeffrey Lewis version.)
Four songs from new bands you are listening to now, and why?
Sick of Me - Shit Present
Absolutely love the whole EP this is from but this is the only song out yet. Lyrics that cut through you.
90210 - The Courtneys
This song is amazing for if you’re freaking out, which I constantly am.
Ice Cream and Sunscreen - Martha
From their new album that’s so good it’s unreal. It feels completely genuine which I find rare these days.
Sincere - Doe
From their new album. On the same label as us and Shit Present and just brilliant indie rock. No bass, just like Sleater-Kinney.
