Record Store Day returns for 2020 with the first of three drops of incredible limited edition releases.
Now in its 13th year, Record Store Day sees thousands of independent record shops all across the globe come together to celebrate their unique culture. Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day, with the vinyl community uniting in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.
As you might expect, things are a bit different for this year’s annual vinyl event. But, with weeks of lockdown, your independent record shop needs you now more than ever. And let’s face it, if you’re staying at home, there’s no better way to spend an evening than sticking on your favourite record and dancing around your living room. Music connects us all and now is the time to give back. We may be socially-distanced, but we can still support our local independent record shops.
For 2020, Record Store Day will be split into three days: 29th August, 26th September and 24th October, with releases spread out over the three Saturdays. As usual, you’ll be able to visit participating record shops to pick up your musical treasures, some of which will be offering bookable time slots for that really personal experience. For customers who want to experience the event from the comfort of their own living room, for one year only Record Store Day releases will be available to purchase online from participating shop websites, or over the phone from 6pm the evening of each drop. To find your nearest participating record store, head to RSD’s handy store locator online.
Support the cause and you could receive a limited edition Fred Perry x RSD tote bag. With two bespoke designs by illustrators Raissa Pardini and HELMETUNDERGROUND & RIKO, the tote bags will be given out with online and in-store orders, while stocks last.
For August, alongside legends like David Bowie and New Order, there’s new releases from newcomers Big Moon, Ezra Collective and The Murder Capital. If they don’t float your boat, there’s a 50th anniversary celebration of Minnie Riperton’s Les Fleur, the original soundtrack of the Godfather and 2,100 copies of So Solid Crew’s 21 Seconds on ultra-clear vinyl. Something for everyone…
Record Store Day 2020 is taking place in participating record shops on: Saturday 29th August Saturday 26th September Saturday 24th October
