“If you’re a fan of The Smiths, or The Coral at their most melodic, then this may be right up your street” - The Guardian
Rising Sheffield band High Hazels have been making waves of late, as James Leesley (vocals/guitar), Scott Howes (guitar), Paul Barlow (bass guitar) and Anthony Barlow (drums).
The band have just released their stunning self-titled debut album, on October 27th on Heist or Hit Records. The album is available to purchase now here and you can stream it in full via Spotify below.
The young balladeers’ track ‘Banging On My Door’ is the latest track to be unveiled from their debut album, and is due for release on November 10th. The track is a laid back 60s-inspired tune, sounding not too dissimilar to the music produced by fellow Northerners/Midlanders Jake Bugg & Alex Turner. The song was subconsciously inspired into being when the band were listening to The La’s, and particularly, The Velvet Underground’s ‘Loaded’. “I’d bought a worse for wear vintage twelve string (a Gibson B25-12), which was almost beyond repair,” says Scott. “It came out of The Luthier's Workshop while we were still in the studio, and it sounded perfect on this tune.”
Inherently northern, the band of brothers and childhood friends from Handsworth are boys who horde priceless guitars, but can’t afford the bus fare home, rehearse dry George Harrison barbs in the bathroom mirror, read the Angling Times, and go to their Nan’s for Sunday dinner.
