Huang Hsuan / Yellow, Taipei, Taiwan.
What do you do?
Chief of WRONGTYPE, music producer, singer and artist.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The best Gig I ever went to was Summer Sonic 2018 at Makuhari Beach in Japan. The stage was located on the beach. The most memorable moment for me was towards the evening, standing in the crowd with everyone, listening to Tom Misch sing his song 'Movie' as the sunset, you could feel the sea breeze. It was a very special atmosphere. I also feel very lucky to have been at the live performance of George Clinton of which I was very impressed.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
“Choose life, choose a job, choose a career, choose a family..."
During High School, I watched the movie Trainspotting with my classmates and immediately fell in love with the young characters on the screen. After the movie, I ran out to buy tight-fitting pants and short shirts to dress like Ewan McGregor. Every time I think about that movie, the song 'Perfect Day' continues to play over and over in my head.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
This question is very hard to answer. I’d probably say that The 2019 Wake Up Festival in Chiayi left the deepest impression on me. Although it was a rainy night, more fans showed up than was anticipated and the venue was overflowing with people. It was the first performance after I won the Golden Melody Award and everyone sang my songs with me from the beginning to the end. It was very exciting because it was the first-time hearing so many people singing my song.
If you could be on the line up with any bands in history?
Jamiroquai. I love his music just as much as I love his MVs and live clips. I think my style of performing is very similar to his and it would be very interesting to be on the same line up as him.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Lemmy, the lead singer of Motorhead. I’ve seen a documentary about Lemmy and I was as much surprised as I was curious about his interests and his collections. If possible, I would love to have a beer and talk with him.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
My Mom!!! My mother is a gospel singer, a guitarist, and a piano player. The main reason why I’m following music as a passion and a profession is because of her and her edification. She has inspired me a lot.
