Joan As Police Woman's Summer mixtape

Wednesday 18th June 2014

To mark the release of new single 'Witness' the amazing Joan Wasser, AKA Joan As Police Woman, has put together this perfect Summer soundtrack for us in the form of this Spotify Playlist. Ranging from Bill Withers through Son Lux to The Velvet Underground, you'll be hard pressed to find a better ten tracks of sunshine and soul. Take a listen, and read about Joan's choices below.

Joan As Police Woman's Summer Top Ten

1. 1 Thing - Amerie
My favourite pop song of all time. Meters drum sample + go-go + that melodic hook… don’t even get me started.

2. Use Me - Bill Withers
His use of space never ceases to move me.

3. Good Kid - Kendrick Lamar
This song floats and I always wish it lasted longer than it does.

4. Easy - Son Lux
The baddest track I’ve heard in recent history. All my favourite things-Dilla inspired track, sparse baritone stabs, amazing sounds, creepy vocals - yum.

5. Ever After - Emily King
The second coming of Michael Jackson with a killer song to match.

6. Alright - John Legend
This track flies so nasty and does so with the most brilliant gospel style vocals and tuba.

7. Family Affair - Mary J Blige
Dr. Dre can do no wrong in my eyes. Combine with MJB and it’s a song I’ll always have to get up and dance to.

8. At Home He’s A Tourist - Gang of Four
Astute outraged social commentary presented as a ripping dance-y attack. Thank you.

9. Spread - Outkast
Lightning-fast swirls of Andre 3000 successfully sweet-talking probably anything with a pulse.

10. Beginning to See The Light - The Velvet Underground
Nothing feels like VU.
