Austin, Texas-based concert promoters C3 Presents have announced the line-up for this year’s Lollapalooza, which will again take over Chicago’s Grant Park 2-4 August, 2013. Now in its eight year as a destination festival based in the Windy City, Lollapalooza began as a touring festival in 1991.
Headliners for Friday, 2 August will be The Killers, the recently resurrected Nine Inch Nails (who played the festival way back in ’91), New Order and Queens of the Stone Age. Long-running electronic/world music architects Thievery Corporation and indie torch singer Lana Del Rey will also play high profile sets. Emerging U.S acts that have been confirmed for Lollapalooza’s opening day include Subculture “Stateside” favorites Smith Westerns alongside the wonderful Father John Misty.
Saturday headliners are Mumford & Sons, The Postal Service, The National and The Lumineers with some left-field bands further down on the bill. Sacramento’s Death Grips are known for their intense fusion of punk, hip-hop and noise rock while the South Carolina duo Shovels & Rope have come a long way since being featured on Subculture in January of 2011.
Lollapalooza 2013 comes to a close on Sunday 4 August with headliners The Cure, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and Knife Party. Highly recommended American bands to play earlier in the day include shoegazers Beach House, Festival vet Cat Power, indie metal act Baroness and Chicago-based alternative rockers Makeshift Prodigy.
Three-day passes for Lollapalooza are sold out with single day tickets going on sale this week.
