The Libertines returned in 2015 with their album Anthems for a Doomed Youth and have now pleased fans further still by announcing a string of tours taking in seaside towns around the UK. What makes this coming together of modern British icons and quintessentially British locations even better is the excellent support bands that they're taking with them or enlisting along the way. While some will no doubt be familiar to Libertines fans, it's always good to check out some of the support bands before a gig.

Amyjo Doh & The Spangles
Fronted by Amy Jo Doherty (sister of Pete Doherty) Amyjo Doh & The Spangles are based in Madrid. Amy Jo moved to Spain around twelve years ago where, among other projects, she became part of The Ezra Beats before forming Amyjo Doh & The Spangles. Check out their lighthearted power-pop ode to Spanish ham below.

The Skinner Brothers
Joining Amyjo Doh on the first two Scottish dates are London's Skinner Brothers. Relative newcomers to the scene but already full of rock 'n' roll swagger, these likely lads are sure to go down well with a Libertines crowd.

We've long been fans of Swansea's Jack Jones and Trampolene. No strangers to Libertines support slots both as a band and as Jack Jones' performance poetry, the full band join the Libs on two dates for this tour. Watch our video of Trampolene from when they supported Buzzcocks at SubcultureLive in London, in 2015 below, and listen to our playlist with Jack Jones here.

False Heads
Another exciting young band with existing connections to The Libertines, False Heads were signed by Libertine drummer Gary Powell to his own label 25 Hour Convenience Store. The noise they've made since has seen the likes of Iggy Pop refer to False Heads as his favourite new band. Check out our playlist with their frontman Luke Griffiths here.

Rat Boy
Since breaking in 2015/16, Jordan Cardy and his band, AKA Rat Boy have won NME's Best New Artist award in 2016 with their DIY bedroom mix of indie and urban. Rat Boy were sampled by none other than Kendrick Lamar in 2017, and you can watch the video of the latest song to be released from their debut 'SCUM' below.

Bright Young People
Another band signed to Gary Powell's 25 Hour Convenience Store. Three-piece alt-rock/punk outfit Bright Young People join the line up for the Blackpool leg of the seaside tour.

The Paddingtons
Reforming in 2017, but dating back as far as 2002 when they were signed by Alan McGee, Hull's Paddingtons will join The Libertines as they pass through their native bit of coast.

One of the hottest tipped bands in London at the moment, their latest single ‘New York vs Paris’ was co written and produced by Ed Harcourt. Previous support slots have included varied gigs from Sophie Ellis-Bextor to Carl Barât and The Jackals so their stint in Hull and Lowestoft should be a treat. Check out our recent playlist with the band here.

Hightown Pirates
Founded in 2016 by Simon Mason, who was described by Alan McGee as "the rock 'n' roll doctor", and whose book 'Too High, Too Far, Too Soon' is a first-hand account of rock 'n' roll excess in the 80s and 90s. Hightown Pirates have already supported The Libertines in Europe in 2016 and are booked to do so again in Plymouth for this tour. Check out their recent track 'Just For Today' below.

Lucie Barât
Another Libertine sibling coming along for the ride, Lucie Barât's music is poetic and political. Lucie joins her brother for the Brighton and Scarborough dates. Check out her latest song below.

Gabi Garbutt
Describing her music as "strange brassy pop", Gabi Garbutt's upcoming album has been produced by musician/producer Sean Read of Dexys Midnight Runners fame. Listen to her song 'I'll Do Anything' below.

Founded in 2015 YONAKA have already earned a reputation for formidable live shows with their raucous brand of indie rock. See for yourself if you're watching the Libertines in Brighton, and listen to our recent playlist with YONAKA here.

Indie super group featuring Mark Keds of Senseless Things and Cass Browne also of Senseless Things and later Gorillaz, Deacuts Join YONAKA and Lucie Barât for the last seaside stay of the tour.

Listen to our playlist with Libertines drummer Gary Powell here, and also check out our playlist with Carl Barât here.
