In a statement issued by their publicist, Vivian Girls are breaking up and will play farewell shows in Brooklyn and Los Angeles. All three members will continue to focus on other projects; bassist Kickball Katy with La Sera, Cassie Ramone (guitar, vocals) with The Babies and solo work, and (current drummer after many line-up changes) Ali Koehler with Upset.
Formed in 2007, Vivian Girls took its name from recurring characters in the works of outsider artist Henry Darger and quickly began issuing singles on several tiny indie labels before releasing their debut LP on In the Red Records in 2008. Subsequent releases included 2009’s Everything Goes Wrong (also on In the Red) and 2011’s Share the Joy on Polyvinyl Records.
A note from the band regarding the split:
Brooklyn, New York, March 2007: We started making music together and became what we know as Vivian Girls. It's been a long and crazy journey in the seven years since, and we feel as though the time has finally come to let our band rest in peace. It's been an experience that we'll look back on and cherish and we'd like to thank you for sharing it with us. We have had such an amazing time being a band, touring the world, releasing records and meeting all of you.
