Marvely

Musician — Milan

Name, where are you from?
Marvely, I’m from Lecco (Italy) but I grew up in Milan.

What do you do?
I’m a singer, producer and art director.

Describe your style in three words?
Marvely, Perseverance, Goma.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The best gig I've ever been to I think was probably N*E*R*D in Switzerland two years ago, my first of them, I remember getting goosebump when they sang 'Maybe'. Pharrell Williams is the GOAT.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
They would definitely be, The Clash: Their album 'Sandinista!' has marked and influenced an entire generation and subsequent generations, the first track of the album 'The magnificent Seven' is a perfect mash of reggae, punk & rap. And lastly, Funkadelic: Their psychedelic-rock was an obsession for my ears and the 10 minutes and 21 seconds of 'Maggot Brain' was the soundtrack of my childhood.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Honestly, I like to see myself as a soft grunge soul, with a funky sympathy in a Hypebeast world.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Jesus, to see if he really existed and to ask him how he managed to be so patient with people.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played in Italy, which is your favourite?
Definitely Rocket Club Milano, where I started with a big bang called Akeem Of Zamunda.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Franco Luambo or simply Franco from the band Tpok Jazz because his guitar has influenced a whole generation of musicians from Jimi Hendrix to Khruangbin.
