Carl Barat headlined the latest Fred Perry SubcultureLive on Tuesday, kicking off the nightlife proceedings at Pitti Uomo, the bi-annual international menswear fashion event held in Florence.
YAB, an underground space close to Piazza della Repubblica is a hidden gem behind huge carved wooden doors, and was filled with guests until the early hours of the morning.
Throwing Shade opened and closed the night, playing a diverse set with uplifting summery tracks including Nights Over Egypt, Sade’s Sweetest Taboo and Captain Beefheart’s Zig Zag Wanderer.
Italian post-punk trio, Soviet Soviet, included in our Italy Sound feature, played an energetic set to a raptured crowd. Their sound is distinct and obviously influenced by British bands Joy Division and New Order; noisy and base-driven, with gritty guitars layered over the top.
The high energy continued when Carl Barât took his mantle as DJ: Nirvana, Oasis, Babyshambles... track after track inspiring arms in the air, the crowd singing along. Carl Barât & The Jackals recently released their new EP 'Harder They Fall' and will be playing the festival circuit throughout Summer 2017, details can be found here.
