Going Deaf For A Living

The Story Of A Music Fan

Tuesday 6th March 2018

A champion of new music since his time at NME and XFM in the early 1990s Steve Lamacq has presented programmes on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, Radio 2 and 5Live. Like John Peel before him, Steve Lamacq has been a consistent supporter of independent emerging British artists throughout his career, shining a spotlight on talent from all over the UK.

Steve Lamacq celebrates his 30 years in the music industry, returning this spring with his intimate one-man-show 'Going Deaf For A Living: The Story Of A Music Fan', sharing anecdotes and observations, collected throughout his three decades of championing new music.

From his memories of working with the great John Peel, his landmark 1990 interview with Nirvana in London, his infamous post gig conversation with Richie Edwards of Manic Street Preachers in 1991 or any one of his 17 interviews with Noel Gallagher.

Though 'Going Deaf For A Living' is obviously Steve's story, the aim of the shows is too explore all music-lovers relationship's with the bands that they rejoice in and obsess over.

As Steve explains: "So from the first singles and gigs you went to (there will be some audience participation in this, I warn you) to the turmoil you experience when, for the first time, your favourite band unexpectedly goes bad.

There will be quite a few stories as well: about bands and gigs and musical nutcases, from The Lurkers to Nirvana; Oasis and Elastica to Bloc Party and quite a good one about Dizzee Rascall at Glastonbury.

Oh and quite a lot of theories too. And a request spot where you can choose a band and I’ll try and dig out an anecdote to match."
