'Joe Strummer 001' will be the first comprehensive compilation of Joe Strummer's work outside of his time with The Clash. The 32 songs are taken from his catalogue of work with The 101ers (the band Joe Strummer left to join The Clash) and The Mescaleros (formed by Strummer in 1999), as well as his solo albums and soundtracks - plus 12 previously unreleased songs.

The compilation was overseen by Joe Strummer's widow Lucinda Tait. After his death, it was discovered that Strummer had kept a huge amount of unpublished writing and recordings stored on tape. On further inspection, there were many previously undiscovered tracks hidden on the tapes. Strummer's methods for concealing the tracks included the recording of two separate 4-track songs onto the same length of 8-track tape, and songs set apart from others by 20 minutes of silence.

All formats of the release include an album of unreleased material. These include an early demo of ‘This Is England' entitled ‘Czechoslovak Song/Where Is England,’ a solo demo of ‘Letsagetabitarockin’ recorded in Elgin Avenue in 1975 which sat forgotten in a bank vault for 30 years. Also included are outtakes from Strummers's soundtrack work for Alex Cox's punk biopic ‘Sid & Nancy’ featuring Mick Jones, and unreleased songs ‘Rose Of Erin’ and ‘The Cool Impossible’. Strummer's later work is represented too with one of the last songs Joe recorded, 'London Is Burning', an early version of ‘Burnin’ Street’ from Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros final album ‘Streetcore’ which you can stream below.

The deluxe box sets also include a hardbacked book of photos notes and ephemera from Joe Strummer's personal archive, much of which is again previously unpublished. The book is designed by Robert Gordon McHarg III, who states, “The idea behind the 64 page A4 notebook is that it’s done as if Joe had designed it himself, telling his story, an insight into his workings including handwritten lyrics with personal notes and scribbles”.

The slipcase adds a further stripped back personal touch to the package, bearing Strummers 1990 drivers licence photo.

'Joe Strummer 001' will be released on 28th September 2018 in standard and deluxe CD and vinyl formats, as well as digitally. To preorder the release and find out more visit
