The superb new series, This is England '90, is Shane Meadows' latest instalment following This is England '86 and '88.
The drama follows the lives, hopes, dreams and struggles of a group of young friends living in the Midlands, Britain, during the time when a nation bid farewell to Thatcherism and welcomed acid house, Madchester, The Happy Mondays, Primal Scream and Stone Roses. The series features most of the original cast from the previous series and film, including the distinguished Vicky McClure as Lol, Joe Gilgun as Woody, and Thomas Turgoose as Shaun.
The first pisode opened with 'There She Goes' by The La's over a montage of news footage from the 90s, including Thatcher's resignation, the poll tax riot, key football events and Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
One of the biggest and best artists to have emerged from the 90s Madchester scene, The Happy Mondays feature twice in the opening episode, starting with the prominent track 'Hallelujah'.
Also featured in the eposide 'The Only One I Know', the second single by Britpop legends, The Charlatans.
Happy Mondays - 'Step On', was a huge hit for the Salford band fronted by Shaun Ryder.
