Name, where are you from?
My name is Amber-Simone, from London but spent my teens in Hertfordshire.

What do you do?
I’m an artist, writer, maker of sounds.

Describe your style in three words?
Sometimes tomboy-sometimes sexy.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I’d say James Blake, I saw him at a festival in Amsterdam and was so captivated by how much I felt every word he sang, I feel like the whole crowd was holding their breath to make sure we heard it all.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
OutKast and Childish Gambino. The 'Awaken, My Love!' record was one I really respected as a body of work and find it so interesting watching him almost become a character per album he makes. I’d like to think that I will one day make something as cohesive and considered as that record.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Soul, house, disco were all genres I grew up listening to, the music in my parents' cars on the school run and soundtracks to my childhood. I’d say my subconscious took a liking to those early moments and has informed a lot of what I digest now as a result of what I knew music to be in my earliest memories.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I guess this changes depending on what I’m listening to, or what I’m feeling. At the moment I’d probably say I’d love to spend an hour talking to Brené Brown as I’ve loved listening to her lectures on vulnerability, this will probably change if you ask me next week.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Vega in Copenhagen is pretty incredible, it feels like you’ve gone back in time with how well kept the interior is, a proper relic.

Amber-Simone recently released her EP 'Black, No Sugar'. Listen, purchase or stream it via awal.ffm.to/black_no_sugar_ep.
