03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Comfort; Natalie and Sean from Glasgow, Scotland.

Describe your style in three words?
Affordable as possible.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Perfume Genius at the Art School, Glasgow. An incredible songwriter and equally as great a performer, so vulnerable yet powerful, it felt as though the performance was just for you while you were watching.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
We'd just like to play with two people we've never seen before but enjoy their work, so FKA Twigs and Danny Brown would be great. Danny Brown probably won’t come back to Glasgow after some arsehole threw a pint at him, so we are sending out this plea - Danny please come back.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
We find the whole idea of subcultures contrived, it’s all just marketing lingo at the end of the day.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
We’re not interested in spending time with anyone in particular, neither of us put people on pedestals. We do appreciate the work of people who have since passed but we wouldn’t want to rip them out of whatever comes next back into this existence just to speak to people they’ve never met before.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
L'antre Chien Et Loup in Rompon, France. On our first EU tour we played this venue in the French countryside, it was a converted pizzeria with a beautiful house above, where a community of people lived. The show was incredible itself, everyone was so receptive and kind, but the surrounding countryside, with mountains in the distance was what made it truly special. After the show we sat on a balcony watching the stars for hours, it was a beautiful moment we will always remember.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Abbey Lincoln/Max Roach - both well known as is, but their contributions to art (together and apart) are transcendent and deserve to be recognized amongst the all-time greats. Together they worked on We Insist! Which is an astounding record that leaves you speechless after hearing it.

Comfort will have a new record out in 2022. To stay up to date head over to linktr.ee/comfortglasgow.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Dire Dire Docks' by Koji Kondo (from 'Super Mario 64'). First distinct memories of music grasping that place beyond words.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Blank Fairy' by Akira Yamaoka.

One record you would keep forever?
'Blonde' by Frank Ocean.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Everything eats and is eaten / Time is fed"

From 'Ingydar' by Adrianne Lenker. Adrianne Lenker is easily one of the best lyricists of all time, her lyrics contain so much within so little, we could quote endless bangers she has written.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Careless Whisper' by George Michael.

A song you wished you had written?
'Lipstick To Void' by Mica Levi.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Queen Of This Shit' by Quay Dash.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Boule de flipper' by Corynne CHARBY.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Good Night, Until Tomorrow' by Nobuo Uematsu.

Any new music you are listening to right now?
'New Song, Car Song' by Piglet.
'Passion' by PinkPantheress.
'Once Wen't West' by Aya.
'Magpie' by Lava La Rue.
