03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Naima Bock, London.

Describe your style in three words?
Never buy clothes.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I’ll have to go with Girl Band (now Gilla Band) in Manchester. I was just SMITTEN with them, every one of them is so talented and the force with which they play just got me. Plus I got to shove and be shoved and headbang which apart from going to Russian baths is my favourite thing to do.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Michael Hurley and the Mouldy Peaches.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Anti-folk was pivotal in my teenage years as well as normal folk music, traditional songs etc. Metal and hardcore have also been helpful, I don’t know about influential but I know they’ve helped me through difficult times.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
George Harrison, it's obvious but listening to his music has such a positive effect on me and his spiritual outlook seemed healthy and intelligent.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Leeds, Brudenell Social Club. I’m not sure why it reminds me of home.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Woodbine.

Naima Bock recently released her debut single '30 Degrees' on Sub Pop Records. Listen, purchase or stream it via ffm.to/naimabock_30degrees.
