Name, where are you from?
Danny Nedelko, Bristol via Ukraine.

What do you do?
Frontman in Heavy Lungs.

Describe your style in three words:
Post Odessa Chic.

Which British subcultures have influenced you the most?
Oasis.

Why are independent music venues so important?
A wise man once said, "If you book them, they will come.” Without the independent venues, where would 'they' go?

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Idles at the Fleece last year. It was the homecoming show of the Brutalism tour and truly an incredible gig. Also it was the night when the final puzzle in forming Heavy Lungs fell into place so that evening holds a special sentimental value for me as well.

To celebrate the opening of our new Coal Drops Yard shop, we've teamed up with indie trailblazers Crack Magazine to create ‘Departures’ – a zine and online series featuring five creatives and the journeys that have shaped them.

04Playlist Notes

What was the first song you played on repeat?
'Back in Black' by AC/DC. My dad used to play a lot AC/DC and Frank Sinatra when I was five or so.

Which music defines the teenage you?
I wasn’t 'cool' as a teenager so you don’t want an answer to that question.

A song from your favourite album?
'Ziggy' by Ulrika Spacek from their album 'Modern English Decoration', which is one of my favourite albums from last year.

A song you wish you’d written?
'Morals' by Iceage. Beautiful, haunting lyrics.

A British icon or band who inspire your sound?
Blur.

What is the last piece of music you bought?
'Flower Boy' by Tyler the Creator.

Best song to bring people together?
'Alright' by D’Angelo.

The best love song of all time?
'Let’s Stay Together' by Al Green.

Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
'You’re Made That Way' by the Doobie Brothers.

What new music are you listening to?
'What You Mean To Be' by Abattoir Blues.
'Over It' by Birdskulls.
'Off My Chest' by Manuka Honeys.
'No One Else' by The Magic Gang.
'Have Fun' by Smerz.
'Keep Walking' by Kelly Lee Owens.
'Star' by BROCKHAMPTON.
