Chlöe Howl

Describe your style in three words?
Laidback, personal, edgy

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
M.I.A Glastonbury 2014 was INCREDIBLE. So energetic, angry and powerful. Danced my face off.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Lauryn Hill, Michael Jackson. Obvious reasons.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I got really into learning and reading about the skinhead subculture when I was about 13, when I first watched This Is England. I just wanted to learn about the history of it and where it came from/what it stood for. The fall out from that is that I still wear Dr Martens every single day and have done for years. I loved the '90s grunge look as I got a bit older and still weave that into my outfits every day. I’d say style-wise I’m most influenced by characters in films, and Drew Barrymore in Poison Ivy was my 90s Grunge poster girl.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Frida Kahlo. I imagine just being in her presence would be life-changing.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Somerset house was an incredible venue to look out at from the stage. And it was at sunset, so the London skyline looked amazing.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I think Robyn has created some of the most well crafted, clever Pop music out there and doesn’t get lauded as a pioneer but every current pop star has been influenced by her in some way.

Chlöe Howl's new single 'Do It Alone' is out now, produced by long-time collaborator Chris Zane (Passion Pit, St Lucia, Friendly Fires). The single follows up Chlöe’s critically acclaimed comeback track 'Magnetic'. Returning to the scene with more new music, Chlöe played a sold-out headline show in November 2017 at The Waiting Room, London - her first show in two years. Chlöe left school at the age of sixteen and scored a record deal with Columbia Records shortly after. Howl spent the next three years writing and recording songs. In 2014, Chlöe was nominated for BBC’s ‘Sound of’ poll alongside Sam Smith, FKA Twigs and Ella Eyra.
