Golden Coast's debut release conjures up its California namesake with danceable drums, sunny synths, verby guitars and just enough rasp in the falsetto to offset the levity. The duo made the trek from the mountains of Colorado and the San Jacinto desert to Los Angeles nearly a decade ago, met in college (classmates and friends with Brent Kutzle from OneRepublic and Cubbie Fink from Foster the People), and started producing and writing for various artists before finally deciding to team up and release a project of their own. Golden Coast combines the best of both their skill-sets: a mixture of electronic and organic instruments, tight production, and sanguine themes set to no shortage of instantly hooky melodies.
Golden Coast's sophomore release is the quintessential summer anthem for anyone who ever uttered the words "college is for lemmings". Hot on the heels of July's breakout debut, 'Dream and an MPC' (an MPC is an early 90's beat-making machine) is this generation's echo of the Pink Floyd sentiment to break the societal mold & be yourself, aptly summed up in the chorus lyric: "we don't need no education to be; all we need is a dream and an MPC." The infectious opening synth hook sets the perfect tone for a cascade of indie pop goodness to follow that will have you dancing throughout and leave you thirsty for more.
