Komaki Doi

What do you do?
Radio DJ

Where are you from?
Born in Nara, grew up in Osaka. My nationality is South Korea.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Paul McCartney. I went with my mother over ten years ago and he looked like a messenger for peace.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
A gig called ‘Mod Mayday’ (where I saw at ROCKETS in Namba, Osaka) was shocking to me. I just couldn’t imagine what the performers would do in daily life.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
I like the LOFT/PLUS ONE in Shinjuku, where I appeared on a talk show. It was a Mineko Noumachi event. I don’t think it is in the same category with FRED PERRY, but it is a kind of shrine for a subculture.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Amy Winehouse. I’d like to listen to her singing whilst standing next to her on stage.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Probably, The Beatles. I’d like to be with them during the Train scene in ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ .

Your greatest unsung hero (or heroine) in music?
Analogfish. I think they should have won more recognition.
