Salt Cathedral is a project lead by Juliana Ronderos and Nicolas Losada. They perform live as a band with Stefan Bildy on drums, Silvio Vega and Nicolas Losada on guitar, Tommy Hartman on Bass and Juliana Ronderos on Vocals. The band's music has been described as a combination elements of math rock, strictly in their complex guitar work and stabbing percussion structures, with a looser rhythmic feel that stems from its South American core.
Originally from Bogota, Colombia and based in Brooklyn, NY the group began recording in early 2011, and touring in 2012.
Formerly performing under the name "il abanico", the band released an EP called Crossing Colors. They shared the stage on tour with Hundred Waters and Freelance Whales (Winter 2013), and on other occasions with Port St. Willow, Hooray for Earth and Bomba Estereo among others. They have participated in festivals such as Northside Festival (New York), NXNE (Toronto, Canada), SXSW (Austin, TX), Canadian Music Week (Toronto) and CMJ (New York).
Their new self-titled EP will be released on July 30, 2013 as a 12" Cream Vinyl Limited Edition. Album artwork was done by NY contemporary artist and long time collaborator of the band, Micci Cohan.
