Fronted by Dave Wakeling, former songwriter and lead singer with The Beat, The English Beat will tour the UK for the first time, this Spring. “I am extremely excited to be back in the UK on home soil” says Dave Wakeling.
The Beat's recording of 'Tears Of A Clown' would become the first single to come out on the legendary Two-Tone label and hits such as 'Mirror in the Bathroom' and 'Too Nice To Talk To', as well as albums including 'I Just Can't Stop It' and 'Wha'ppen' would follow.
Regarded as one of the great 2-Tone era bands, The Beat disbanded in 1983, going their own ways to pursue other projects.
The English Beat will play an extensive run of UK dates in March 2014 including shows at O2 Academy venues in Liverpool, Glasgow, London, Oxford, Bristol and Dave’s hometown and the birthplace of many Beat lyrics and classics, Birmingham.
Dave Wakeling is also the US ambassador for Specialized, a charity project set up to help raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Dave has created an all-star Two Tone line up including Specials, Selecter, Bad Manners, Body Snatchers and Bellestars to record a cover version of the Madness classic, 'Our House' for the 'Specalized 3 – Mad Not Cancer' album. Last year Specialized released an album of 28 Beat covers for Teenage Cancer Trust.
