YACHT began as a solo project for musician/multimedia artist Jona Bechtolt of Marfa, Texas. He has added personnel, both in-studio and for live shows, over the years (including Los Angeles-based writer and artist Claire L. Evans) and has released a dozen singles, EPs and albums on ultra-hip labels DFA, Marriage and States Rights since 2003.
Yacht is donating 100% of the sales of their new song, "Party the NSA," to fight against the surveillance and wiretapping of U.S. citizens by the National Security Agency. The band has set up a Website, http://partyatthensa.com , where the song can be downloaded for a donation that will benefit the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a nonprofit fighting against the NSA's mass surveillance program.
"Party at the NSA" is a satire of the security agency and features a guitar solo by U.S. comedian/podcaster Marc Maron, a strong advocate of digital rights. "We live much of our lives online; we should be outraged by the extent of the NSA's domestic spying programs," the band says. "Instead, we are sinking into a dangerous indifference. Insidious forces are at work. Help us reverse the entropy."
