Name, where are you from?
Josh from The Skints, London.

Describe your style in three words?
Local, calm, palm.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Jay Z on Hackney Marshes or Refused at Kentish Town Forum spring to mind, but there have been lots.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
The Clash - the godfathers of the style.
Dennis Brown - to hear that voice live one time.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Man so many... '80s LA hardcore, Volcano Sound System-era rub-a-dub, Brooklyn 'Lo Life' style, '90s junglist movement, English Lovers Rock scene, '90s skate scene, Grunge, Grime... The list is long.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I’d love to talk shop and get some knowledge from David Attenborough.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The Norva, in Norfolk, VA, USA is an unbelievable venue to play. Backstage is crazy, all kind of games machines and a basketball court. Also a jacuzzi, but you’d have to be braver than me to get in there.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Fela Kuti. A true legend of humanity and music alike.

The Skints released their new album 'Swimming Lessons' on 10th May 2019. Purchase it at swimminglessons.theskints.com.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
Probably something from the Jungle Book as a toddler.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Time Bomb' by Rancid.

One record you would keep forever?
'Energy' by Operation Ivy.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"If you don't like me then don't chat to me, air me,
when you see me turn your back to me."

'That's Not Me' by Skepta.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Substitute Lover' by Half Pint.

A song you wished you had written?
'All I Want For Christmas’ by Mariah Carey. Cha-ching!

Best song to turn up loud?
'All Night Long' by Mary Jane Girls.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Plug Walk' by Rich The Kid.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Here I Come' by Dennis Brown.

Any new artists you are listening to right now?
