Al Moses

South Wales

Monday 17th December 2018

Name, where are you from?
We’re Al Moses, a rock n roll band of 19/20-year-olds from South Wales.

Describe your style in three words?
Docs and darks.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
It’s a hard one, but I’d probably go with The Libertines at the Motorpoint Cardiff a few years back. It was the first gig Jack an I went to together and it was just after they’d reformed. All in all just an insane, chaotic gig.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Would love to be on the same bill as Super Furries. Gruff Rhys is a bit odd and it would be fun to pick his brains backstage. Would also love to play with Primal Scream. We all love Bobby Gillespie, he’s cool personified.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I think growing up through this day an age, you’re dragged through most subcultures and styles and you discover your own style along the way. In terms of music; we’ve got bits of punk, bits of mod and a lot more crammed in. It’s all a bit all over the place nowadays.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Richey Edwards from the Manics. It would be surreal to get an insight into some of his darkest lyrics.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
We played Cardiff’s students union with The Sherlock’s and Trampolene recently, massive gig, had a big crowd, and we were treated like royalty... we also did our headline at Clwb Ifor Bach recently to hundreds and that was a great, great feeling.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Nick Drake. He’s obviously held to greater acclaim now than he was when he was alive, but his writing influence on our band is undeniable. If you strip back some of our tunes you can hear how the melodies move similarly.
