Disclosure - Settle - Album Review

Wednesday 22nd May 2013

The debut album from Disclosure is released 3rd June on PMR records. Since producing major singles such as ‘What’s in your Head’, Disclosure have not stopped producing new influential tracks, more recently ‘White Noise’ featuring the electronic duo AlunaGeorge which reached number 2 in the charts upon release. Having appeared in a back-to-back Boiler Room with Skream and on Annie Mac's Radio One show, the duo continue to gain more and more popularity.

Most recent release featuring Eliza Doolittle - 'You & Me'

Beginning with a 90's Garage feel, ‘Intro’ leads into the first vocal track of the album ‘When a Fire Starts to Burn.’ The duo have already built up the anticipation for the other twelve tracks. At the young ages of just 18 and 21, the brothers have swiftly risen to fame, gaining a top 10 place in the charts for 'Latch' featuring vocals from Sam Smith, as well as 'White Noise', adding to their incredible list of collaborations with artists. There are multiple collaboration and guest vocals on the album, including from Jessie Ware and Sasha Keable. Another tune from the album ‘Grab Her!’ has an old school dance vibe to it with broken up beats changing unexpectedly alongside the repetition of 'Grab Her' in a computerized tone.

Disclosure have refined the 2-step garage beat, which is produced alongside bouncy house synths. A unique style to the album is the incorporation of vocals into the Dance / House genre the brothers have picked up on from the likes of Daft Punk and Julio Bashmore.

This album is a breath of fresh air, and a sneak peak into the direction and popularity, of the House music genre for the next year. Finally ending the album with a lower tone, another vocal track flowing smoothly alongside some deep house vibes, which is becoming somewhat of a signature for the brothers, Disclosure.
