Drowners will release their debut EP, Between Us Girls, on Birthday Records on February 4th, 2013.  The New York-based group, fronted by rakish Welshman Matt Hitt, will be the first release for the label, newly founded by former Kaiser Chief, Nick Hodgson.

Already making waves in Hitt’s adopted hometown (the frontman relocated to New York from the Rhondda Valley last year), with a string of sweatbox gigs, combined with an irresistibly laid back attitude, Drowners whipped up a fervent following in the six short months since their first show.  Invited by Justin from the Vaccines to support his band at The Webster Hall, the resulting Twitter meltdown is what brought the band to Birthday Records’ attention.

Between Us Girls is an effervescent crackle of youth soaked in the same passionate and literary barrel of great British classic indie pop as The Jam and The Smiths, while Matt’s lyrics bring to mind ‘His ‘n Hers’-era Jarvis Cocker with a veil of wrinkled bedsheet androgyny and kitchen sinks over-flowing with adolescent drama.

Between Us Girls features the lead track Long Hair along with You’ve Got it All Wrong and A Shell Across the Tongue and will be released digitally and on LTD edition (500 copies) vinyl.
