This Madrid quintet understands that the future is now. In this electric mix, with its roots somewhere between ecstatic psychedelia, kosmische musik, and the Nuggets tradition, Lüger have found the perfect blend to keep growing, or, at least the energy to attract the attention of a varied and tuned-in public. They made a clear declaration of intent with their self-titled debut.

"It was a sign of maturity for an entire underground scene that was crying out for a work of this weight and depth," they said at the time. Then came the U.S. tour, the much talked about shows at Primavera Sound and South By Southwest, and topping lists of the best albums of the year by the Spanish press - all done naturally, carrying the weight on their backs, or those of Facebook and Bandcamp. Since then, Lüger has been highly spoken of the kraut trailblazers. Five guys able to connect Oneida with Ornette Coleman and Neurosis with Amon Düül II. 

Their arrival made a splash, and now they seek confirmation with their new album “Concrete Light”, seven tracks that definitely don’t lack in style or duration.  There’s plenty of room for an intro with an air of Düsseldorf (“Belldrummer Motherfucker”), a maelstrom of proto-industrial riffs (“Strangers”), and a hit single with which Death in Vegas pales in comparison (“Monkey's Everywhere”). Recorded over three days, the seven tracks that embody “Concrete Light” are an example of directed intensity, subjugating atmospheres, a great sonic display where they cross into the territory of Can, Hawkwind, Sun Araw, Kraftwerk and Dead Meadow. Without a doubt, one of the albums of 2011.
