PINS Playlist

Tuesday 25th November 2014

Manchester all-female four-piece PINS released acclaimed debut album Girls Like Us last year, and have since been taking their unique blend of dark pop, post punk, fuzzed up garage sound and alluringly abrasive chant-like vocals on a series of tours, playing with the likes of Dum Dum Girls, Sleigh Bells and Warpaint.

The band recently opened for The Fall, at Fred Perry Sub-Sonic Live, which prooved to be be an exceptional show! Watch the Manchesterettes perform 'Waiting for the End' below, and more videos here.

Warming up for the live performance at Sub-Sonic Live in London, member Sophie has put together an exclusive playlist of ten songs which reminds her of PINS and being on tour this year... Enjoy!

1. Bad Reputation - Bass Drum Of Death
We played with Bass Drum Of Death last year in France and it was wild.  We all shotgunned beers together in the men's bathroom, then had a horrible overnight drive back to Manchester instead of staying in our hotel, but it was worth it for the fun.

2. Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings - Father John Misty
When we were on tour in the USA recently we went to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and saw Johnny and Dee Dee Ramones' graves. This is a great song and it reminds me of that trip.

3. So Good At Being In Trouble - Unknown Mortal Orchestra
This song is from one of our fave albums this year. We were lucky enough to watch them play at Iceland Airwaves recently and it was awesome.

4. Big Toe - The Growlers
We've just returned home from a UK tour with The Growlers.  They have a drag act lip syncing as their warm up. What's not to like?

5. Jet Boy Jet Girl - Crocodiles
We only recently found out that this has been covered by a bunch of people - we're most familiar with the Crocodiles version that they play live.  It's a good dancing song!

6. Auto Neutron - Fat White Family
We've seen Fat White Family quite a few times on tour this year and listened to this record a lot when we were out recording at Rancho De La Luna in the Joshua Tree Desert. The creepy backing vocals are the best.

7. Brainwash - La Luz
Another band that we had the pleasure of sharing the stage with at Iceland Airwaves festival. They have a Soul Train bit in the middle of their set which is always fun.

8. Lux - Ballet School
Ballet School are our Bella Union labelmates and a bunch of babes.  It's great to share a roster with such cool bands.

9. Veneer - September Girls
September Girls are our long term pals and tourmates.  They've been playing a bunch of new songs on tour which they haven't recorded yet which sounded REALLY good.

10. I'm In Your Mind Fuzz - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Lois and Faith when to see these guys at Iceland Airwaves recently and said it was the best - I missed out but having been listening to the record I wish I'd gone!  Also, their name is ridiculous.

PINS also recently released a limited edition cassette EP 'Come Back' for Cassette Day, the title track video for which is below.
