More Sunderland accented gold from the musical hotspot that gave us The Futureheads, Field Music and Hyde and Beast. Rivals is the new rock three piece fronted by Futureheads guitarist, Ross Millard, whose first proper single release, the very punchy 'I'm Not an Animal', is out now.
'I’m Not An Animal' was produced by Field Music’s David Brewis, and is the follow-up to the ultra-limited cassette-only release of 'Wax' in February, which sold out within a week! It’s a stark, lean and muscular rock song, constructed on a hot-rod chassis of solid hard-rocking drums and bass. Kerrang called it "...Fire-breathing punk rock...".
It was a love of classic rock and 80s post-hardcore brought Ross Millard, Dan Shannon (Mercury League) and Tom Skilbeck together to form the band.
If you're lucky enough to be in Northumbria between Christmas and New Year's you can see them live, along with Sky Larkin on the 28th of December at the Out Of The Trees festival, with all proceeds going to charity.
