Crystal Castles have released their third album (III) on Fiction Records. This is the first of their full-lengths to be produced entirely by one half of Crystal Castles; Ethan Kath.
The Canadian duo travelled to Warsaw and Berlin to record this album, changing their sound somewhat to create darker yet cleaner recordings and ditching their computers to instead record with analogue synths direct to tape. The result is a more streamlined product which focuses on lyrical experience. (III) maintains staggering synth lines while exploring bleak subjects of dystopia and injustice through Alice Glass' vocals which alternate between being the hauntingly beautiful and frighteningly raw.
The songs differ in themselves on the album, and a range of different influences can be heard such as a throwback to rave music with 'Sad Eyes', and the embrace of a more contemporary sound of witch house in 'Pale Flesh'.
