It's that time of year again. The time when music meets film in the world's biggest conference and showcase, displaying the worlds brightest talents, new and old. Being a music website however, it will be the music that takes centre stage as we pick this years highlights.
Long adorned for being at the forefront of showcasing pinnacle acts, now in its 25th year and looking stronger than ever, there is a lot to be excited about this season. With so much to choose from, you could quite easily miss an array of talent. This is why we thought we would help you out by highlighting a handful of acts that should not be looked over.
Without seeming biased, a selection of the crop just so happen to have appeared on our roster over the last few years, with a couple of acts that have not, but are just too good to miss out.
Dent May could be a name you may well recognise. Hidden away for the last couple of years, he first came into the spotlight under the guise 'Dent May and his magical Ukulele band' with the infectious single 'Meet You In The Garden'. This whimsical tune was worlds apart from what any other Ukelele yielding bands were producing, cementing himself in a category of innovation. It is a wonder quite what he will be presenting, but if his previous work is anything to go by, then you can be assured of a great show.
Next in our mix is Deerhoof. Making their mark with the album 'MilkMan', the are genre defying to the upmost. Kooky as they come, you can file these next to Ween in your unconventional likes. An absolute must for those seeking something a little different.
Now we move onto a small assortment of bands we have featured recently that are assured to be huge in 2012, well, two to be precise, but if you catch anyone over the next couple of days, make sure it is these two. First off is Brooklyn sensations Widowspeak, displaying Lynch -esque reverberations. You can find out more about them in our Sub-Sonic section HERE. Our next hot tip is a San Diego outfit Alabama Shakes who are without a doubt one of the revelation acts of recent times. Again, they have a full profile in Sub-Sonic, so go HERE to see and hear what they are all about.
So, if you are over in Austin Texas right now, do the clever thing and goose a gander at these fantastic bands.
