The Merrylees

Thursday 13th March 2014

Six Scottish lads make up The Merrylees, the latest band hot on the Fred Perry Subculture radar. Supporting the legendary Paul Weller on all his forest dates this summer, the band have just returned from Germany where they opened for Babyshambles in Hamburg.

The band have just released the single 'Forever More', which was produced by Richard Hawley at Yellow Arch studios in Sheffield, and he also plays on the track. The band's previous debut single 'For You' was produced by Bill Ryder-Jones of Coral fame last year.

The Merrylees also play a host of dates around the Paul Weller tour that takes them to London, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester and Nottingham.

The band have also been nominated for ‘best new Scottish act’ at the Scottish Variety awards and previous winners have all gone on to forge successful careers.

With clear 60s/70s psychedelic rock, mixed with a modern, American-Brit hybrid sound, listening to The Merrylees sounds like a melting pot of The Doors, The Animals, The Kinks, Fleet Foxes, Jake Bugg and The Coral.

'Forever More' will be released by Edinburgh arts label Neu Reekie! on limited edition 7" vinyl and download in May, and the band will be announcing details of an Edinburgh single launch via their facebook page shortly.
