Emerging from the concrete paradise of Birmingham, Victories at Sea fuse a vivacious combination of brutalist electronic hooks, soaring post-punk guitars and dolorous wordplay. We are proud to premiere the trio's brand new video for their latest single 'On Your Own'.
'Own Your Own' is the latest single to be taken from their debut album 'Everything Forever'. An upbeat dance-able tune with a big chorus hook and familair themes of escapism from their beloved city run throughout the track. The band released their debut album ‘Everything Forever’ via Static Caravan Recordings back in October 2015, you can stream it via Soundcloud at the bottom of this page.
'Everything Forever' was 'written over two years at an abandoned steel works in Digbeth, and recorded in the damp basement of an old whistle factory in the depths of the city’s industrial Northern quarter, embracing the darker sounds and subjects was inevitable.'
They're not wrong either, when listening to their music, you can hear these beatifully crafted industrial soundscapes being driven home by the rhythm section. Previous single 'Bloom' is a great example of this, and acting as the albums opener perfectly opens you up to what the band, and the album are all about. Check out the video for 'Bloom' below.
Victories At Sea's music (which they self describe as Disco-noir) is reminsicent of the dark-wave scene of the 80's, most notably channeling the likes of Manchester band The Chamelions, and even elements of New Order at times.
In a more contemporary context you'd file them next to White Lies and Editors, the latter of which they recently supported on tour, in fact it's no wonder The Guardian said this about them;
“Dolorous indie disco with a fresh spin, the band have supported Editors and Savages and you can imagine them making the headliners sweat”
